Happy New Year!
It's the second week of the year but it feels like March already.
The beauty of this time of the year is that despite being in the same old situation, there is a feeling of a fresh start.
Many of us have created goals for our personal and professional lives. Some have gone a step further to create plans to achieve those goals. I am not any different because writing down my thought is one of the things I excel at. However, this is not enough.
My simple message as we start the year is; Just Do It. Just Start. Chak achaka! This message has been preached over and over but I gladly join the choir.
For this post I will share with you two quotes. The first is by James Clear in the book Atomic Habits.
"It is easy to get bogged down trying to find the optimal plan for change: the fastest way to loose weight, the best program to build muscle, the perfect idea for a side hustle. We are so focused on figuring out the best approach that we never get to taking action"
While planning is essential to achieving our dreams, it is very easy to get caught in the rut. As you keep organizing yourself and waiting for the ideal environment, time is passing, and so are opportunities.
Maybe you are that nurse who has been planning to go back to school, its time to send that application, you will figure out the fees as you move along. Maybe you've wanted to start your journey to work abroad, reach out to that person you know. Better yet, register for the IELTS training. Drop those applications at your dream hospital. Just do it.
Once you take the first step, your mind will jump into action mode. You will get ideas and even meet people with similar ideas. You will still find some of those obstacles that you dreaded and you will realize that some of them are non existent.
And this brings me to my second quote of the day:
"Direction not Intention Determines Destination"
By creating goals and resolutions, you have already determined your destination. The next step is moving towards that direction. You may have the best intentions, but if you don't take action in the right direction, you will never get to your dreams. In other words, desire is never enough.
One of my mantras last year was "small consistent steps." Sometimes your destination seems really really distant, but with one step forward, you move closer to those goals that you have nicely drafted in that journal or in your handset note pad.
Wishing you all a very prosperous 2021.
To being better together.

PS: I know the year is halfway gone already. Nevertheless, just start.
